Banking on images

Its a bank with a difference. Currently stocking around 10,000 transparencies in the newly opened slide bank known as Stockwaves, Bombay’s Hufriz Sethna says Stockwaves provides ready, eye-catching pictorial solutions to clients who "don’t want to go in for a shoot... Say you want a picture of a baby, we have 100 different pictures of babies in various poses.”

High quality images of people and places, flora and fauna, beautiful landscapes or well-known tourist spots in USA, Europe, Iran, China... the bank has a merchandize mix of pictures taken over time either in the studio or on location by Hufriz’s husband Rumi Sethna who is a freelance, professional photographer.

"We have unusual concepts too,” relates Hufriz. For example, a lighted candle glowing within a cracked egg shell denotes birth; a ladyfinger (vegetable) with a ring on it depicts a lady’s ring finger. There are pictures for all budgets, from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000 for large, poster sizes, suitable for advertising agencies, companies or individuals.

Having given up a lucrative but demanding 9-7.30 p.m. job with Stock Holding Corporation of India, Hufriz is currently focussing on building the data bank, with all photos with description available on their as yet nascent website www.stockwaves.net
