Tabling it all
The VI All Parsees Handicap Billiards Tournament and the XIV All Parsees Handicap Snooker Tournament once again saw the supremacy of the Elphinstone Cricket Club (ECC), with Farhad Tengra and Kersie Gandhi of the ECC winning the respective tournaments in June 2003.
In the billiards final, Tengra (-250) beat Cyrus Mistry (-200) while Gandhi triumphed over Noshir Lala in snooker. The semi finals witnessed a tussle between Tengra and Aspi Patel and Cyrus Mistry versus Eric Mistry in billiards, while in snooker Gandhi overcame the challenge of Viraf Bhesania and Lala beat Tengra.
Organized by FOZAWAC (Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of Welfare and Culture) at the ECC Billiards Room, the tournament was ably conducted by ECC billiards committee members Phiroze Mehta, Rumi Tatary, Daryus Dhalla, Fali Sholapurwala and Eric Mistry, states a write-up from FOZAWAC general secretary Rusi Bhumgara.

FOZAWAC’s 14th All Parsees Table Tennis Tournament held earlier in the year at Rustom Baug saw the domination of Zubin Panthaki who won the men’s singles for yet another year. Anahita Pithawala of Surat was crowned women’s singles champion.
At 63, Zarir Khandhadia established his fitness and enthusiasm for the sport by overcoming the challenge of several youngsters on his way to the runners up position in the men’s singles and in men’s doubles with veteran Percy Mehta. With sub juniors Anosh Irani, Zubin Taraporewala and Arzan Varachhawala honing their tournament talents, it was Varachhawala of Surat who picked up the award for the most promising youngster. The event conducted by Zarksis Khandhadia witnessed a large number of entries (80) in men’s singles and 32 pairs in men’s doubles, states Bhumgara.
