Aid Junglewasi Ghambar
Over 100 years ago several Zoroastrians resided on the seashores of Nargol, Saronda, Davier, etc. The menfolk toiled in the jungles for the major part of the year, only occasionally visiting their families as in those times it took them almost two days to reach their homes.
Realizing that though they were born and brought up in the same village they could hardly meet one another, in 1916 they decided to establish the Shree Junglewasi Jarthosti Ghambar Fund so that they could meet at least once a year, in the jungle area on the east of the railway line where they had their agricultural activities. This Ghambar originally was for males only which we gradually opened up for females and children.
We have religiously preserved the traditions of our forefathers and we organize one Ghambar every year when Zoroastrians in large numbers come from Bombay and other places. This year the Ghambar was scheduled for March 17, 2002 in Surangi.
In the past we got sponsors at regular intervals coming forward to bear the entire expenses of the Ghambar in the memory of their dear departed relatives. But with the expenses of one Ghambar mounting up to Rs 50,000 we have not had sponsors for the last five years. While the expenses are increasing, our interest income is decreasing. We therefore appeal to you for sponsorship or donations in cash or kind, which may be sent to Rohintan M. Daviervala, Treasurer, Khan Bahadur’s Bungalow, Sanjan (W. Rly) 396150; Tel. (0260) 576229, 576459. Cheques may be drawn in favor of "Shree Junglewasi Jarthosti Ghambar Fund.” Your generous contribution will go a long way in preserving our ancient culture and tradition.

President, Shree Junglewasi Jarthosti Ghambar Fund
