Accolades for Sarbh

For being a "genuinely legendary figure” in the (shipping) industry, former chairman of Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal Private Limited and former regional director-South Asia and Middle East, P&O Ports, Capt Jimmy Sarbh was inducted into The Maritime Standard (TMS) Hall of Fame — Middle East and Indian subcontinent, on November 22, 2021. The event was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Introduced as someone who has "done much to transform the ports sector” and as being "outspoken, pragmatic and having spent over 40 years in the industry,” in his acceptance speech, Sarbh complimented his family — wife Lalé, son Jim and daughter Simoneil — for their sacrifices. "I was too busy,” he said.
"We changed the paradigm of how containers were handled in the subcontinent,” stated Sarbh, giving examples of efficiencies introduced at the Nhava Sheva port near Bombay. "In Madras turnaround times for ships reduced from over 21 days to less than 24 hours… We put Mundhra (port in Kutch, Gujarat) on the map as one of the largest container ports in India,” he commented. Foreseeing that the upcoming Vadhavan port, north of Bombay, "will be the Rotterdam of India,” Sarbh stated that "my dream will be fulfilled.”
TMS founder and managing director, Trevor Pereira was quoted on their website as stating: "The awards received a record number of nominations this year.” A total of 20 awards were presented to individuals and companies "following the deliberations of the judging panel,” notes the TMS website. "In addition, there were a number of special awards presented by TMS for particularly impressive levels of performance over many years.”
"It is clear that the shipping world is regaining confidence and is responding positively to the opportunity of meeting in person again,” said Pereira. There is also no doubt that Dubai is leading the way in staging such events with TMS very much to the fore.
Held for the eighth year in a row under the patronage of His Highness, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman and chief executive, Emirates Airline, the awards this year were hosted by comedian and impressionist Jon Culshaw.
