Masina modernization
The new 10-bedded Parsi facility at the Masina Hospital, inaugurated on November 18, 2021, aims to "offer world class medical service to middle class and well off Parsi patients,” stated a note to Parsiana from the Hospital’s chief operating officer (COO) Dr Vispi Jokhi. Positioning themselves as the "ideal choice” for Parsis due to the Hospital’s proximity to baugs and residential hubs, Jokhi reiterated that the Hospital’s "multispecialty approach offers diagnostic facilities, operating facilities and tertiary care services all under one roof.”
"It was a special day for (Masina Hospital) as we reached a unique milestone,” stated Jokhi with the modernization of their three operating theaters (OTs) with "independent air handling units” completed. "The rooms sport a modular design with unique anti-microbial wall cladding,” he stated. Each of the operating rooms is linked to their in-house information system and "live transmission” of procedures performed in the rooms is feasible. The design effort for the operation theaters was led by Dr Gustad Davar who heads the Hospital’s advisory board. Jokhi acknowledged the services of Hosmac India Private Limited that served as consultants to the project.
The new facility for Parsis provides remote control automated and centrally monitored beds connected to the nursing station, bed head panels with dedicated gas and central suction facilities. The facility is situated opposite the existing Parsi Ward, and will offer multiple configurations — one executive suite, two single rooms, two twin-sharing rooms and one triple-sharing room (see "More at Masina,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, September 21-October 6, 2021).

A jashan performed by Ervads (Dr) Parvez Bajan and Zahan Turel flagged off the day. Zahan, then 15 years old, was a victim of a fire related accident at Surat’s Goti Adarian and was treated at the Hospital for burns last year (see "A burning problem,” Parsiana, November 21-December 6, 2020).
Jokhi acknowledged the donors for the OTs who contributed Rs 60 lakhs each: Aspi Darukhanawalla and Khurshed Doongaji on behalf of the estate of Shirinbai Kharshedji Doongaji; Roshni Daruwalla on behalf of the estate of Freny Parakh; and the Zoroastrian Charity Funds of Hongkong, Canton and Macao. Jokhi noted that these were regular donors and listed some of their prior gifts to the Hospital.
First time donor, the Sir Homi Mehta Charity Trust, has donated towards one executive suite and two single rooms. "Their donation amounts to more than Rs 40 lakhs,” stated the COO. Nitash Damania, on behalf of the estate of Banoo N. Damania and Firoze Nowroji Daroga has donated Rs 30 lakhs towards the rooms. Davar has contributed "over Rs 15 lakhs.” F. J.
