Serving as an example
Across the world, for two years, businesses and corporations, irrespective of size and clientele profile, have been reacting to the Covid-19 pandemic in many ways. A basic reaction has been to cut back their services, and often lay off the lowest paid workers using the pandemic as a reason… or shall I daresay, excuse!
I live in the United States and during the past couple of months I have witnessed and been affected by such "business policies” in hotels. During brief one-week stays in Pasadena and Monterey, the four star business hotels we stayed in had truncated their services. They replaced breakfasts with walk-away brown bags with a bottle of water, juice, a breakfast cake, and fruit; and room cleaning reduced to "on request” but never on consecutive days. Towels had to be delivered to the front desk for replacement, and coffee, tea, soap, etc had to be picked up rationed when needed! However, at check-out we were unabashedly charged full fare for our stay.
What does this have to do with Parsiana, the journal published in Bombay for the worldwide Parsi Zoroastrian community?
As a subscriber, I appreciated receiving an email from the subscription department stating: "Due to the lockdown last year, Parsiana was unable to publish issues for April, May and the first issue of June 2020. To compensate subscribers, we have extended the subscription period by five issues. Indian and overseas subscribers will receive the total number of individual issues they have paid for.”
We should applaud this thoughtful customer consideration and hope more businesses and large corporations act likewise. It is an excellent example of the application of Zarathushtra’s teachings to the Parsiana business practices… good thoughts, good words and good deeds!
