Petit land redevelopment

By Farrokh Jijina · July 21-August 6, 2021
The proposed development of a 2.5 acre vacant plot for a residential project by a Petit family trust that runs the Bai Avabai Petit Girls’ School in Bandra has stirred up a controversy. The trust was expected to release a statement in end July clarifying the position, a source told Parsiana.
"A developer is only advising us on how to exploit the plot and procure permissions. The trust will be selling the flats,” stated an unnamed trustee of the school to The Times of India (ToI) of June 24, 2021. "We plan to upgrade the existing School infrastructure; perhaps build a college too.” A source told Parsiana that not a square inch of the land has been sold to anybody and that the trust would be developing the land. Rajendra Kothari of KBK Realtors said his firm is providing consultation to the trust and helping it procure the permissions, stated ToI. He denied there was a formal agreement with the trust to develop the property.
Reportedly, on March 12, the state urban development department issued a notification removing caveats on land usage, allowing the trust to develop the plot. "While the reservation for the municipal market/old age home/students’ hostel has been entirely deleted, the reservation for playground, park and school has been relocated to another open ground nearby that also belongs to the School,” stated the ToI report.
Bharatiya Janata Party member of the Legislative Assembly from Bandra Ashish Shelar opposed the redevelopment stating the land should be used for public purposes.
