“Beads with a bearing”

I loved the cover story on the sub-continent’s suffragettes ("Franchise for females,” Zoroastrians Abroad, Parsiana, November 21, 2018). However, what touched my heart was the story in the same issue about the amazing work and dedication of the "Toran” (Mistry) sisters ("Beads with a bearing”).
Bead work of a cruder kind is still being done in some parts of Kutch on bags and blouses but the materials used are so poor as to make the effort depressing. Anokhi, the Jaipur based clothing line, uses beautiful glass beads sourced apparently from China and Australia to trim some of their fabrics. I wonder whether they could assist in making a documentary about this vanishing art/craft form. GEETA DOCTOR

Congratulations on an excellent issue with a strong female focus (Parsiana, November 21, 2018). The story on the Mistry sisters was very touching and a timely reminder of the values of caring and loving companionship.
