The Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital: received aid for repairs
With Mistry’s donation, the Hospital has started the renovation of wards for dogs and cats, repairs of surgical clinics and operation theaters, according to a report in the Mumbai Mirror dated February 19. The bequest will also be used to fund repairs of the roof of the post-surgical ward, building three toilets for doctors and visitors; repair of animal birth control ward; sterilizing of stray animals; four air conditioners for the operation theaters and two operation tables.
"We were desperately looking for donations for the repair work and when we received the donation, we started the work immediately,” Hospital secretary and in-charge Col (Dr) J.C. Khanna told the newspaper, noting that "this is the first time that the donation has specifically been earmarked for repair work.” According to the MM report, "Some wards of the Hospital had not been repaired even once since the Hospital was built in 1883.”
The Hospital is part of The Bombay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and "has given dedicated and relentless service to all types of sick and injured animals.” On an average 9,000 to 10,000 animals of all species are treated in a year, states their website.
