Be practical for survival
So, how long are we going to squabble! Till we perish? What is the matter with the so-called intelligent elite who seem to be making rules and laws for us?
Why don’t we go back into history? When our ancestors left Iran, it was not out of choice. Do you think they wanted to? Survival of their religion, not their lives was at stake. They could have easily converted and saved themselves the ordeal.
Landing in India, we had to learn a new language, change our garb and follow certain rules. We did, didn’t we, whether we liked it or not, for survival. And so we survived and our race increased despite there not being enough women from Iran, we are told.
And so we come to survival today. We educate our children, send them out into the world and then clamp down on their freedom. One must be practical; intermarriage is a foregone conclusion. We may miss out on certain aspects, starting with our looks, our way of thinking, our Parsipanu. But do we have a choice? The acceptance of children of men marrying outside but not of women is rather ridiculous as mainly it is the mother who teaches religion to the child. I have witnessed over the years these children usually cease to be Parsis after the navjote whereas children of Parsi mothers keep saying Ashem and Yatha all their lives.
I hope common sense prevails before it is too late. MEHROO S. KHAREGAT
