“Beware of pity”

In "Beware of pity” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, October 21, 2017) Meher Dhondy talks about handicapped people. She ends her letter saying, "Please stop pitying the handicapped. They are persons in themselves.” Very true. I had the privilege of being a teacher of a deaf-mute-blind girl, similar to Hellen Keller. Every communication was through writing on her palm. Adi Marzban’s brother Lulu and his wife Mitha ‘Mummy’ of Jam-e-Jamshed had introduced me to her. An extremely clever girl, in the first meeting she asked me the difference between Parsi and Irani. Though it was very tedious to explain, she was satisfied with my answers. After all these years we are still in touch with each other. NERGISH DORDI
