The Irani and Tea Sippers
A reasonably valid time pass for/ Many a retiree is the restaurant of the Irani/ Who form their groups and attend daily/ An hour or more in mutual retired company/ Formed by many a long and faithful friend/ One cup of tea followed by two, then three./ Is sipped slowly over a period of time./An arrangement which is found reasonably/ Permissible to the Irani, and keeps him happy.
The company of the retired, are never fired/ For their prolonged stay which the boss/ May find objectionable, since no loss/ Is caused by the "sipping and gossiping”/ As long as the sale is good. Each retired voice/ Sips away, enjoying a topic of his choice/ Ranging from horse-racing and horses, views/ Turning to book, theater and film reviews,/ To TV, family, and even political news.
That they ate nothing, the Irani can tolerate/ That they passed time warming the "Welcome” chairs/ Is also approved from his business-like point of view/ Letting them proceed, dragging the day as long as they need/ Is overlooked, by ordering cups and cups of his "brew”/ The famous Irani "chai,” hot and delightful, strong/ For which they continue chatting for long.
Retirement implies, a lot of time, outside/ the home, a good amount of time to lose/ in a manner suitable to both, with nothing wrong/ It would in conclusion not be unfair to say/ That the Irani-restaurant tea-sippers choice/ Has been planned in a most agreeable way.
