Udvada going cashless
"In an important step towards less-cash India, Maghrol and Udvada in Gujarat will be transformed into ‘digital villages’ with support
from ICICI Bank,” tweeted Smriti Irani, Rajya Sabha member and union textiles minister, who adopted Udvada gaam (village) on October 31, 2016. Thanking Chanda Kochhar, managing director and chief executive officer of ICICI Bank for her pro-active approach in helping digitize villages adopted by Irani under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, the minister wrote that "Maghrol and Udvada (are) shining examples of ‘digital economy’” as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and she looks forward to working with the Bank in that direction.
Since most Zoroastrians visit Udvada to worship at the Iranshah Atash Behram, one wonders how the ashodad offered there can be managed through cashless transactions!
