Sufficient help received
Anyone who uses National Highway 8 connecting Maharashtra to Gujarat regularly will be familiar with unchecked traffic coming full tilt on the wrong side of the road, which seems to have become a norm. Four members of the Umrigar family from Andheri’s S. B. Bharucha Baug met with an unfortunate accident on July 4, 2016 when their Maruti Swift had a head-on collision with a truck allegedly driving at high speed on the wrong side of the road. Grandmother Dina Cooper, 84, died on the spot. Zubin Umrigar, his mother Kashmira and fiancée Jasmine Wadia were grievously injured. The family was returning on that fatal Monday morning after paying their respects at Iranshah in Udvada.

Wrecked car of Umrigar family
Friends and neighbors from the housing society in Udvada where the family has an apartment decided to crowd finance the Umrigars’ medical treatment. When the monies collected by the society were offered to those in charge of the patients’ wellbeing, it was graciously turned down as they had already received sufficient help by way of funds from friends and the community. Those in the society who had organized the collection are in the process of returning the sums to residents who had donated them.
An advertisement in the Parsi Times of July 30, 2016 also states that no further funds are required at present and the family would approach the community should the need arise.
