Mevawala Agiary’s 142nd

By Sherene Vakil · June 21, 2016
Interfaith marriages and conversion are not solutions for the survival of the Parsi community, stated chief guest Ervad Burjor Antia in his keynote address on the occasion of the 142nd salgireh of the Seth B. M. Mevawala Agiary in Byculla on April 30, 2016. Our forefathers flourished and prospered because they tenaciously followed the principles and precepts of the Zoroastrian religion in their daily life, the senior solicitor stressed. If the community wishes to progress and survive, we should imbibe the Zoroastrian virtues inculcated in us by our forefathers. It is the duty of everyone to pass on this priceless heritage and legacy of the faith to the next generation, he said.

Mevawala Agiary

The recently painted Agiary wore a festive look with flowers and special lighting, mentions an email received by Parsiana from its panthaky Ervad (Dr) Parvez Bajan. A maachi was offered and a jashan performed by priests of the Agiary, headed by Bajan. This was done by the trustees in honor of the founder of the Agiary. That evening a hama anjuman jashan was performed by Ervad Darayus Bajan and other priests on behalf of well-wishers and residents of Byculla. A religious program followed under the chairmanship of Dr Aspi Mehta, managing trustee of the Agiary and trustee Burzin Wadia. Ervad Darayus Katrak spoke on the meaning and message of Ahura Mazda; three ladies from the senior citizens’ group of Rustom Baug sang monajats; singers Marzban Wadia and Jamshed Kotwal regaled the audience with religious songs.
The vote of thanks expressed gratitude to Antia and his wife Roshan, the Agiary’s trustees, Firoz Sethna of Feroze Foods and Flavours, Sharmin Dumasia who had created the exquisite rangoli, the priests, helpers, donors and supporters, including the Parsi Press. After partaking of chasni and snacks catered by Grub Corner, all those present sang Chhaiyé Hamé Zarthoshti before dispersing, the email concludes.
