"Even in murder, class..."
I am not related to Kawas Nanavati nor did I know the family. Yes, I did see Nanavati and possibly was one of the "swooning ladies" who, along with classmates from Law College, stood in line from eight in the morning to get into the courtroom. Nanavati’s wife Sylvia, though a good looking woman, did not strike us as being a beauty. The crowd outside waiting to boo Sylvia when she was leaving the court did not comprise of only Parsis or Sindhis, but was a mixture of citizens of Bombay.
I agree that the eventual verdict was a gross miscarriage of justice. However, I do not see any relevance in comparing Nanavati with Phiroze Daruwala, a man who has been noted as someone with a twisted mind and a criminal record right from the start! Moreover, he was a person who spent his life cheating people, as the writer himself has noted.
