Bharuch fire temple
There is now one more court case involving the Parsi community, regarding opposition to the shifting of the fire from a neglected agiary in Bharuch. But Parsis of late seem to have little to do but to go from one controversy to another and approach the courts, losing much money on lawyers’ fees, not to mention the unending media coverage in the secular Press which is making us a laughing stock!
Bharuch, with a tiny population of 100 or so Parsis, boasts of four agiaries. It was for this very reason that it was decided to take the atash from the non-operating Doongaji Agiary to a new fire temple built in New Bombay. This practice is quite common and there have been no problems earlier. In fact, the Baroda Agiary too has atash from a defunct fire temple in Gujarat. Even the Iranshah itself has been located in several Gujarat cities before Udvada.
If the Iranshah can be shifted so often, what’s the big deal in shifting the atash from Bharuch to New Bombay?
