An unZoroastrian deed
Do not disown the women who choose to marry outside the community. Love is blind and those who are in love do strange things if they are rejected by their peers and if you must disown such inter-married couples (an unZoroastrian deed) then it is not proper to deprive only women of their rights when the Gathas implicitly advocate equality of the sexes.
Also, we should welcome a few inter-marriages to refresh our gene pool. Too much inbreeding within a small community only results in abnormal offspring, which has become very obvious among the Parsis of today. So why do the supposedly wise and learned leaders and clergy not understand and change their mentality? Aren’t we foresworn to refresh and renovate everything in creation?
Do you know that Pouruchista chose her own husband and he was not an Iranian of Zarathushtra’s tribe or region. Maybe you should read the last Yasna of the Gathas to know the advice given by our Ashu to all those who are intending to get married or joined in holy matrimony:
"To Pouruchista, scion of the clans of Haechataspa and Spitama, youngest of the daughters of Zarathushtra, grant the constant aid of the Good Mind, the strong support of Thy Truth,
that she may take counsel with enlightened understanding, and with devotion act well as wisdom may direct!”
Pouruchista responds: "Verily have I, as a righteous one, chosen him,
and shall honor father and husband,
and be righteous to nobles and peasants.
For righteousness let our heritage be the radiance of the Good Mind,
May Mazda Ahura grant the blessing of the good faith for all time!”
Zarathushtra says: "These words do I address to you maidens who are being married, these counsels do I give to you, bridegrooms, heed them in your minds and lay them to heart.Let each cherish the other with righteousness.
Then surely the reward of a happy life shall be yours.”
I will end by quoting Mahatma Gandhi on behalf of all those oppressed Parsi sisters who have been falsely discriminated against. "I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.”
