Ushta-te’s annual day
Justice Jamshed Pardiwala of the Gujarat High Court launched a unique Gatha calendar at the annual function of the Ushta-te Foundation held on December 12, 2015 at the Navroji Vakil Hall, Parsi Sanatorium in Ahmedabad. This was a project of the Gatha Study Circle, an offshoot of the Foundation, mentions Shirin Kanga, Ushta-te Foundation trustee in an email sent to Parsiana.
Utilizing the vision and skills of Rustom Daboo, grandson of Vada Dastur Khurshed Daboo and artist Cyrus Mobedji, the calendar, showing the roz and mah in English, carries quotations from six Has of the Gathas along with explanations largely based on translations by Dr Irach Taraporewala and Pilloo Nanavatty. The divine messages have been graphically interpreted into paintings by Daboo and artistically printed by Mobedji, Kanga notes. It is their aim to take the Gathas into every Zarathushti home in pictorial form so that they are easily understood, especially by the youth.

Daboo gave a Power Point presentation of the selected Has to the audience, explained their meanings and emphasized that to understand Zoroastrianism in its essence one must read, understand and imbibe the message of Prophet Zarathushtra as expressed in the Gathas. Daboo and Mobedji’s efforts were appreciated and commended by Pardiwala and the others present, mentions Kanga.
The Foundation’s managing trustee Meher Medora was honored on the occasion for her contribution to several organizations in Ahmedabad and especially to Ushta-te. Kanga read out a citation highlighting Medora’s dedication, hard work and sterling leadership qualities.
The evening’s proceedings ended with games of bumper housie and "chatakedar (finger-licking)” Parsi bhonu, the email concludes.
