Violin virtuoso

By Mehroo Kotval · January 21, 2016
"An outstanding violinist whose intellectual and artistic qualities distinguish him as one of the most sensitive musicians of his generation,” is how Farhad Billimoria has been described by world renowned Iranian violinist Bijan Khadem-Missagh under whose guidance he had studied in Austria. Dr Walter Verdehr chose Billimoria to study at the Michigan State University as the youngest student with the largest scholarship offered to any undergraduate.

Farhad Billimoria: violin virtuoso

Having started learning the violin with Jini Dinshaw, Member of the British Empire and founder of the Bombay Chamber Orchestra (BCO), where he also played at one of the desks, Billimoria will perform once again with them as a soloist under the baton of Philip Mackenzie on January 31, 2016 at the Y. B. Chavan Auditorium. The program includes Viennese and European pieces by Wolfgang Mozart, Johannes Brahms, Franz Lehàr, Edward Elgar and Edvard Grieg.
Billimoria is believed to be the only Indian (and the only Zoroastrian) concertmaster who leads a European orchestra, Mitteldeutsche Kammerphilharmonie Schönebeck, which is located in the outskirts of Berlin. He has performed as soloist and chamber musician in several European countries as also in India, South Africa and the USA and has also appeared on radio and television in Europe and the USA. Recently he was featured in the prestigious European magazine Das Orchetser.
Tickets for the program are available from January 21at Rhythm House and online at bookmyshow.com
