Night racing in Bombay

By Sherene Vakil · December 7, 2015
Following the successful trial of night racing during the last season, Bombay’s Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) punters and race-goers may look forward to 20 nights of activity on the turf beginning January 3, 2016. Sponsored by stud farm owner and racing enthusiast Zavaray Poonawalla, the current chairman of the RWITC, the first race will be a triple million one where the winner will also take home a valuable trophy worth Rs 10,00,000, heretofore unheard of, mentions the Afternoon Despatch and Courier (ADC) dated November 20, 2015.

The RWITC’s calendar of events also includes the 36th Asian Racing Conference which returns to Bombay after a lapse of 19 years. Approximately 700 delegates from many countries are expected to attend the event which will open with the Villoo Poonawalla Indian Oaks. The Gool S. Poonawalla Million, which has a three million purse, will also be run on the same day, ADC notes.
