Challenges for the BPP
After reports about the closure of Irani cafes came the news that Parsi Dairy Farm was going to shut shop. Thankfully the owners refuted this which brought a sense of relief. Imagine Bombay without Parsi Dairy kulfi, delicious dahi, mava and milk!
This set me thinking. Today the crisis seems to have been resolved but how can one be sure about the future? If only Parsis had inherited the business acumen of our forefathers such eventualities would not arise.
The new Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) trustees must take steps to help Parsi owned enterprises. The BPP has the resources; influential men/women with expertise in different fields would be more than willing to help. It is time the BPP redefined its role. Let the seven new trustees focus on bringing back the lost dignity, heritage and will to proliferate. They must appreciate the fact that we are mature individuals and it is our right to have choices.
Doongerwadi, flat allotments, raising funds, old age homes, education, etc should be within the purview of the BPP’s administration, but imposing orthodox ideas on us, is a big no. If the new BPP entrants do their bit with sincerity and honesty there will be resurgence in every respect.
