“Gholvad’s glory days”

Thank you for the opportunity to share my memories in "Gholvad’s glory days,” (Parsiana, August 7, 2015). Some of my relatives in Australia, USA, UK, Poona, Nasik, Bombay and Calcutta who subscribe to Parsiana have also read the article and I am pleased that it brought back fond memories for them too!
My Bombay based cousin Phiroze Javeri has rightly pointed out a small error in my description of the records that we played as children on a gramophone built by my Rustom Mama. I had stated that "we played 78 r.p.m. vinyl records.” The records were in all probability made of a shellac compound. Vinyl (Polyvinyl chloride — PVC) was introduced much later than 1933! I had also written that "the gramophone still plays 78 and 33.33 r.p.m. records.” We played only 78 r.p.m. records on that gramophone. The 33.33 "micro grooved” records were introduced around 1948 and cannot be played with the coarse needle of the older gramophone.
