Playing a Parsi

By Sherene Vakil · September 7, 2015
Beauteous Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif plays a Parsi girl in the film Phantom. An action thriller set against the backdrop of the terrorist attack on Bombay on November 26, 2008, her role is that of a London based member of an international aid network who has spent time all over the world and has been recruited for a mission to avenge the atrocity and wreak retribution for the wounds of 26/11 suffered by the metropolis, notes Bombay Times (BT) of August 12, 2015.

Katrina Kaif: Parsi character in action thriller

The film has been made by Kabir Khan who started his career as a documentary filmmaker. Having worked in many areas of conflict, Khan knows from personal experience that intelligence agencies often recruit people from aid agencies as it is easier for them to obtain visas and gain access to difficult areas which are closed to others. He chose the half-British Kaif for the role as he wanted to bring an international feel to the character based on her "physicality and persona,” BT mentions.

  • What specifically did we gain by this portrayal ? Why are we so happy with this role depiction ? I wish they did not show her dishonoring our fire (she is seen SMOKING). Armin
