Day of devotion

By Sherene Vakil · April 7, 2015
Addressing scores of persons present at the M. J. Wadia Agiary on March 1, 2015, Kersi Limathwalla, chairman of the M. J. Agiary Trust asked, "As true devotees of Dadar Ahura Mazda, are we truly happy? As our nation makes progress, have we also progressed spiritually? On this day of Meher roz, Meher mah, we should measure our success which to a great extent depends on devotion (which) is synonymous with love… We should have undiluted devotion to and unconditional surrender to Ahura Mazda and love his creations on earth.”
(Clockwise, l-r): Ervad (Dr) Ramiyar Karanjia, Kersi Limathwalla, Dastur Khurshed Dastoor,
Shirin Wadia, Dara Mehta, Shyam Wadia; Marazban Mehta with singers; jashan at Wadia Agiary

A jashan was performed that evening at the Agiary by Dastur Khurshed Dastoor of Udvada to mark the eighth anniversary of the renovated Agiary and hall where the Structured Religious Course is being held since the past seven years, mentions a write-up received from the trustees of the Agiary. Monajats were sung by Marazban Mehta with participation by members of the Course. Dastoor agreed with Limathwalla that we should love all creations of God along with our fellow human beings. He urged youngsters to attend such functions in larger numbers as "the need of the hour is asha vahishta, righteousness, and it is Ashoi alone that will take us to Ahura Mazda.”
Ervad (Dr) Ramiyar Karanjia, who conducts the Course, explained that it has progressed from generalization to specialization of prayers: "We should unconditionally love our God, Prophet, religion, the seven ameshaspands, the religious institutions… emotionally, not just intellectually.” In fact knowledge, practice and love culminate automatically into goodness and good deeds which results in a holistic approach to religion, Karanjia explained. Announcing the commencement on April 5, 2015 of the eighth Structured Course which will give a deeper insight into our daily prayers, Karanjia said it would begin at 11 a.m. and all are welcome to join.
The trustees felicitated Cyrus Unwalla, the contractor who had undertaken the renovation of the Agiary and property developer Zarir Bhathena for his guidance and support. Roxane Desai, co-ordinator of the Structured Course was also felicitated. Foot tapping songs by Mehta and a film on Jung-e-Variv from the Shir-e-Shirin play screened by the Mancherji Edalji Joshi Memorial Trust were followed by dinner.
