Parsis and BJP
Parsis have come out in support of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the first time in the history of independent India. Dastur Khurshed Dastoor, high priest of Udvada’s Iranshah urged Parsis to vote for the BJP, which has pleased the party stalwarts as well as workers, though some Parsi scholars and industrialists have slammed the move.
"Great Parsis! They are the real citizens of India. They have lived life full size and have allowed others to live with freedom and dignity,” said Dr Kripal Singh, a social scientist from Dehradun. Writer and journalist Indi Sajwani of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, explained, "The Parsis are great Indians. They are not only businessmen but with great etiquette and values of an advanced society.” Shabnam Thapa, proprietor of Sharadeya Shishu Vidhya Mandir in Chidderwala, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, says: "The Parsis are known for their sincerity and honesty and they have never shown duality at all! They are truthful workers of Mother India. They have played a major role in the all-round development of the country. We all request Human Resource Development minister Smriti Irani that there should be a complete chapter on the Parsi cultural heritage in Indian school and college texts.” TAJ RAWAT
