Entic(e)ing Parsis

Entice, a jewelry boutique located in Bombay’s Opera House area is hosting a series of promotional events to project its internationally aesthetic look, mentions a write-up on the store sent by Delna Pooniwala, senior business manager for KGK Entice. One of these events was a wine tasting evening for Parsis, with a sommelier informing the audience about the wine making process, the etiquette of serving it and how it should be imbibed. So enthusiastic was the response to the event that Pooniwala is planning to repeat it. There are other Parsi oriented events in the pipeline, she revealed. One evening clients were treated to an evening of music with refreshments — the soulful Sufi and Indian classical recitals accompanied by Indian snacks while during the American jazz performance international flavors ruled.

Pooniwala also conducted educational jewelry sessions, sharing her expertise regarding different metals, precious stones, manufacturing techniques and the most current stone settings, the write-up mentions. When Parsiana inquired about her credentials during a telephonic interview, the jewelry veteran explained that she had conducted courses in jewelry design in Andheri for 15 years under her venture, D’s Creations. But jewelry was not what she started out with. Having studied interior design in Pennsylvania, on her return to India in 1989 she discovered that the field was not woman friendly as she had to deal with workmen like masons and others. She then moved to creating jewelry, "learning on the job” while working with some of Bombay’s biggest establishments, including five years at Zoya, a top end Tanishq brand (of Titan, owned by Tata) where she was looking after the Warden Road store.
It was her husband Aspi, who has been making jewelry for 36 years who was her mentor. "A hard taskmaster,” as she describes him, he honed her sensibilities as well as her skills at his factory where she learnt the process from the bottom up. Describing her age as "approaching 50,” Pooniwala is the mother of two boys, Shahvir, who is married and lives in Abu Dhabi and Shon.
The brand Entice was launched in 2004 in Hong Kong by the KGK (Kesrimal Ghisalal Kothari) group. Eight stores in China followed. The parent company being based in Jaipur, two years ago a store was opened in that city and then there was one in Delhi. The boutique at Opera House followed, though there had been a factory outlet in the city earlier, Pooniwala mentioned. Established in 1905, the KGK group are diamond site holders with offices in 16 countries, she revealed.
"India is now modern by design,” feels the company, which is working on launching a chain of jewelry boutiques all over the country. Unique and artistic pieces are being offered to meet the high expectations of customers, the write-up concludes.
