Relief for animals
Beauty Without Cruelty (BWC) was "pleased to receive a letter from the Rajasthan government saying they were considering according heritage status to the camel,” reveals Diana Ratnagar, chairperson of BWC-India in the organization’s journal Compassionate Friend’s Summer 2014 issue. This was in response to BWC’s long standing appeal for the government to pass legislation to check slaughter and smuggling of camels out of the state, the journal notes.Additionally, BWC has obtained relief for animals being used in processions and rallies in Poona. Along with the Sarva Jeev Mangal Pratishthan, BWC had appealed to the Poona police to disallow the use of horses, ponies, camels, elephants and cattle in processions. The first such order was passed for Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti celebrated on March 19, 2014, Compassionate Friend mentions.
