Don’s threat to Boman Irani
Actor Boman Irani has been provided with protection by the Bombay police after he received threats from gangster Ravi Pujari. Police commissioner Rakesh Maria confirmed the incident. "The number used to call Irani is an overseas one,” a source informed Daily News and Analysis (DNA) of August 31, 2014 and the Anti-Extortion Cell has been asked to look into the matter.
Boman Irani: targeted by underworld
Irani is acting, along with film star Shah Rukh Khan in Happy New Year, a film scheduled for a Diwali release. On the night of August 23, 2014 three men on motorcycles fired outside the residence of the film’s producer Ali Morani in Juhu. The five bullets that were fired hit a tree trunk, a glass pane and the bonnet of a BMW car parked inside the building, according to the DNA report. Two days later, police revealed that Pujari had called Khan’s production house Red Chillies and told a staffer at the office to inform the film star to stay away from Morani, as the latter is linked to other dons. Police subsequently gave protection to Morani. The gangster is believed to have also made threatening calls to two other persons not connected with Bollywood.
DNA mentions that the Bombay police are considering providing security cover to all actors, producers, directors and businessmen who have received threats from Pujari during the past two years. It may be recalled that the Wadia Group’s office too had received such calls from the gangster not long back, the newspaper notes.
