Health sans medicine
"Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food,” said naturopath Dr Darius Umrigar, quoting Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, while conducting a full day workshop on "Good Health Without Medicine” at Blavatsky Lodge on June 7, 2014. He was addressing 80 participants who had registered for the workshop, mentions Marzban Giara in an email sent to Parsiana.
Columnist Shernaz Avari introduced Umrigar as a healer and practitioner of alternative medicine for over 15 years. He has been delivering lectures on health and home remedies at Blavatsky Lodge twice every month as also at agiaries and senior citizens’ associations. Bombay Parsi Punchayet trustee Arnavaz Mistry felicitated the doctor on behalf of the Gustadji Mehenti and Homi Chinoy Trust.

During a Power Point presentation on life after 50, Umrigar emphasized the importance of a vegetarian diet and provided helpful hints on dealing with various common ailments. He suggested simple remedies to reverse illnesses by eating the right foods. Most people suffer as a result of eating the wrong foods. By changing our diet we can all lead a healthy life.
A gadget that squeezed juice without destroying the vital phytochemicals so that maximum benefit can be obtained from fruits and vegetables was demonstrated. Also explained was how a biodisc (a round clear glass natural energy generating device) can help to detoxify and hydrate all body cells to aid in healing.
Umrigar was thanked for sharing his expertise and experience as were workshop organizers Mahzaver Dalal, Tehmina Peer and volunteers. Instead of holding a one-day workshop, two-hour sessions were suggested at every Parsi colony and baug with the help and cooperation of local associations so that more people can gain knowledge and adopt a healthy lifestyle. A contributory vegetarian lunch was catered by Percy Bhada, notes the email.
