“Peace, prayer at...”

The photographs of the Matheran Parsi Aramgah ("Peace, prayer at aramgah,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, July 7, 2014) depict an environment of peace and tranquility where one can go and put some flowers and pray for one’s beloved ones who have passed on. Why, oh why, is the same thing not done at our beautiful Doongerwadi where we have ample space to have a cemetery with a garden full of nature’s bounty like flowers and fauna? Why are the Bombay Parsi Punchayet trustees adamant that Bombay’s Parsis must go to a dakhma and rot?
Those who prefer the dakhma are welcome to do so, but I, for one, would really prefer a cemetery where my children could place a rose on my grave and pray when my time comes. The other option would be cremation, but definitely not to rot in a dakhma! THRITY MISTRY
