PLIH deadlock broken

The long drawn out tussle between the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) and the Managing Committee (MC) of the Parsi Lying-In Hospital (PLIH) has been resolved with both parties agreeing to a proposal to develop the property into a super specialty orthopedic hospital. The deadlock ended at a meeting on April 15, 2014 where it was decided that the BPP would get 2,500 sq ft of the 60,000 sq ft area of PLIH and that free treatment to deserving members of the community would continue, reported Hindustan Times (HT) on April 17, 2014.

"In an out-of-court settlement, the BPP has ratified the proposal that entails a 30-month lease with 10 options of renewal. The security deposit to be given by the agency has been increased by 100%,” Yezdi Bhagwagar, treasurer of the MC informed HT. In 2011 the MC had made a contract with a healthcare agency, the Krimson Health group, to develop the heritage property, but the BPP was opposed to the project. BPP chairman Dinshaw Mehta, the sole opponent of the project at the April 15 meeting, told HT, "We are trustees of the Hospital, and the committee did the wrong thing by seeking permission from the Charity Commissioner to lease the property without our consent.”
