Doongerwadi fire doused
"The fire occurred near the mobed building pathway to Doongerwadi. It seems that rubbish, plastic and all kinds of waste material is thrown by the residents of mobed building, as well as those using the pathway between Godrej Baug and Doongerwadi, along with the dry leaves which caught fire, and started burning and within half an hour, the fire was extinguished by the fire brigade personnel” so stated Bombay Parsi Punchayet on April 3 in response to a letter from Parsiana referring to a report in the Mumbai Mirror (MM) forwarded to Parsiana by readers Homi Dalal and Jal Desai.
The MM report notes the fire on Sunday night, March 16, 2014 was "snuffed out by alert residents of Grand Paradi, which adjoins the Tower of Silence, on Sunday night… Eyewitness said the fire which broke out at 6.30 p.m. and was fuelled by strong winds and dry leaves — was spreading quickly.
‘There was a fear that fire would spread to our building and one of the row houses… For the next 15 to 20 minutes, till the fire brigade reached the spot, residents and guards battled the blaze,’ said Anup Patel, a resident of Grand Paradi.”
