By Sherene Vakil · February 21, 2014
Winning the crown for the second time, lively former teacher Freny Madan was declared the Parukh Dharamshalla Queen while Behram Sidhwa was crowned King. The event took place at the Bombay Parsi Punchayet run home for the elderly on January 6, 2014. Yasmin Captain and Minoo Toddywala were first runners-up, mentions a write-up sent to Parsiana by the organizers. Ladies from the Inner Wheel of Bombay were present to judge the contest during which the participants showcased their talents in the form of songs, dance or relating a joke or anecdote.

During the contest, residents were asked: "If you were granted a wish, what would you wish for?” Most of them said they would like to continue to live a peaceful life at the Dharamshalla until the end of their days. Many thanked members of the Ladies Advisory Committee (LAC) and staff for the love, care and security provided at what they regard as their own home. At the end of the program the judges commented that they were "amazed at the tremendous talent and great spirit of the young at heart participants,” admitting that it was tough to select the winners.
The occasion was a New Year’s party which model and television presenter Parizad Kolah Marshall attended along with her daughter Deanne. Everyone had a wonderful time, with entertainment provided by the residents and snacks donated by the Taj Mahal Hotel and Palace, the write-up mentions.
The F. S. Parukh Dharamshalla, located at Hughes Road’s Khareghat Colony, is a haven for nearly 100 members of the community aged over 65 years. Here they are housed, provided food, clothing and medical facilities. The day-to-day running of the institution is conducted by a team comprising a resident manager, assistant manager, supervisor, nurses, ward boys and ayahs, who are guided by the LAC. At the party personalized mugs were given to all the residents and staff members and steel jars to all the Class IV employees of the Dharamshalla, the write-up mentions.
