Honoring Tata

By Hilla P. Guzder · November 7, 2013
Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of the Tata Group and current head of the Tata Trusts, was inducted into the renowned US National Academy of Engineering (NAE) at a function in Washington DC at the historic National Academy of Sciences building on October 6, 2013. Induction into the NAE is one of the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Tata was brought in as a foreign associate and honored for "outstanding contributions to industrial development in India and the world.” The NAE is a private, independent non-profit institution founded in 1964. Its role is to promote engineering as a vibrant profession and to provide to the US Government the expertise of eminent engineers on matters of engineering and technology. Tata was among the 69 new members and 11 foreign associates inducted this year. Tata has also been appointed to the board of trustees of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, an influential American think tank which plans to open a South Asia Centre in New Delhi.
