Giving their members the opportunity to keep pace with the march of technology, the World Zarathushti Chamber of Commerce (WZCC)-India organized visits to Advinus Therapeutics and Tata AutoComp Systems (TACO) at the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park at Hinjewadi on the outskirts of Poona on November 11 and 12, 2011. Advinus, which has former Glaxo head Homi Khusrokhan on its board of directors, is a research based company, the first of its kind in India to offer end-to-end development services to global pharma, agro and biotech industries, as per its website. A Tata enterprise, the company is also into drug discovery and development, particularly in the fields of malaria, diabetes, etc.
TACO is one of India’s leading auto component manufacturers, supplying customers like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, General Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra, Volkswagen, etc in India. WZCC members were taken around two factories making radiators and intercoolers and the injection molding of plastic components. The robotic process of painting was interesting to watch, reports Bombay chapter vice chairman Adi Siganporia in their November newsletter. Dr Naushad Forbes, director of Poona’s well-known engineering firm Forbes Marshall, is on TACO’s board of directors, states their website.
After viewing the Tata Archives in Poona which chronicle memorable moments of the Tata story, the group moved to the 12.5 acre green garden of Tata Power at Walwhan, located downstream of the Walwhan dam in Lonavla, where 50 species of roses and 100 species of indoor plants including medicinal ones are carefully cultivated. The endangered Indian fish mahseer, which can grow to between six to eight feet in length, weigh 35-40 kg and is the angler’s delight and despair, is being artificially bred in the Tata Power Company hatchery at Lonavla for the past 35 years and the young ones (fry/fingerlings) are sent to different states in India as part of the mahseer conservation project, notes Siganporia.
