Vision of Lions Club
The Department of Ophthalmology at the B. Y. L. Nair Charitable Hospital in Bombay has received a shot in the arm with upgrading of facilities, including new equipment and the latest technology. Thousands of poor patients will benefit from this act of service of the Lions Club of Byculla. Project chairperson Lion Percy Buharivala and his wife Arnie worked tirelessly for four years toward this end, ably assisted by Lion Burges Hoshang Wania, the current president of the Club, notes a write-up received from Zarine Commissariat.

On November 6, 2011 the chief guest, international president Lion Wing-Kun Tam, inaugurated the newly upgraded department, funded and executed through a generous grant of US $ 1,76,597 (approximately Rs 88 lakhs) from the Lions Clubs International Foundation. Both he and guest of honor Manisha Mhaiskar, additional municipal commissioner, Bombay applauded the noble services which the Lions Club has been providing over the years. Others who spoke on the occasion were past international president Lion Dr Ashok Mehta, dean of Nair Hospital Dr Ravi Rananavare and head of the Hospital’s ophthalmology department Dr Anjali Nicholson, the write-up mentions.
Buharivala and Wania received certificates of appreciation from Tam for their sterling efforts in making this social service project a reality. The write-up notes that the good work being done by the Lions Club of Byculla has resulted in several volunteers and donors offering to help.
