Show love and compassion

When the leadership of a religious community divides its members it loses its spiritual authority and the community has to ask the civil authorities to intervene.
Having lost their spiritual authority, the leaders attempt to enforce discipline through diktats against those who were once their disciples. What they fail to consider is that a religious community is kept together by love, compassion and wisdom.
I appeal to the leadership to show some of these virtues and the "big stick” of banning and defrocking will become unnecessary.
