Sports meet in Iran

After organizing the International Zoroastrian Jam-e-Janbakhtegan sports tournament for 30 years, the Zoroastrian Students Association is inviting athletes from all over the world to their 31st meet from July 25-29, 2011.
Competitions will be held in nine events: basketball, volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis, chess, athletics, swimming and cycling in three age groups — children, teens and adults. "Every year we host 800 competitors in these nine fields and nearly 5,000 spectators. Zoroastrians who are interested can apply either individually or as a team,” notes a press release from the organizers. The winner gets a championship plaque approved by the federations of Iran. Overseas participants will be offered hotel accommodation and meals as also a special tour package around some cities of Iran but the deadline for registration is June 20, 2011. Details regarding online registration and payment will soon be announced on their website www.jamejanbakhtegan. kdz.ir, notes an e-mail from Yasna Yazdani.

The Janbakhtegan Games is one of the most important events of the year for the Zoroastrian community in Iran. It is organized each year during the first half of the Fasli month Amardad at the Marker Sports and Culture Center in Tehranpars, stated a news item on Amordad blog. The Janbakhtegan Cup is a tribute to the Zoroastrian martyrs who lost their lives in the Iran-Iraq War.
