“Mhow’s messiah”
I have read your obituary on Behram Masani titled "Mhow’s messiah,” (In Memoriam, Parsiana, September 21, 2010). Masani and I were students of philosophy, he an Elphinstonian reading for his MA, I an undergraduate at Wilson College, but we met every Monday evening to attend the lectures of Prof J. C. P. d’Andrade, the doyen of Bombay’s philosophers, on Francis Herbert Bradley’s Appearance and Reality. We were also members of the Bombay Philosophical Society where, as its honorary secretary, Masani passed amusing votes of thanks. He was a competent philosopher.
Masani was a handsome young man, tall with head always held high, a rather nonchalant manner and a dreamy look. I was happy to renew our friendship after many years when he and his wife came to stay in Bombay for medical treatment.
