“An eerie silence”

It has been brought to our notice that you have mentioned that the undersigned, Dr Nilufer E. Bharucha and Dr Coomi S. Vevaina, have been threatened by the Shiv Sena over the issue of Rohinton Mistry’s novel ("An eerie silence,” Editorial Viewpoint, Parsiana, November 7, 2010). We would like to very strongly refute this as a total fabrication and misrepresentation by the Press.

Neither of us has been threatened by the Shiv Sena or by the authorities of the University of Mumbai. We are surprised that you should not only print such falsehoods but also launch a drive to protect us without checking the facts with either of us. While we appreciate the concern of Parsiana we reiterate that we are not in any danger nor do we need a campaign by the Parsi community on our behalf.

The report appeared in The Times of India of October 22, 1010. As it mentions both professors were unavailable for comment, Parsiana did not verify the information with them. We regret the misrepresentation of facts.
