“Talibanization of the BPP”
After reading "Talibanization of the BPP” (Parsiana, September 21, 2009) I would like to borrow the words of Jamsheed Kanga who has been actively involved in the welfare of the Parsi community and ask "Who are the renegades?”
To my mind Ervads Khushroo Madon and Framroze Mirza are heroes, providing yeoman service to deceased Zoroastrians and are not renegades in any sense.
I fully support Kanga’s views that surely Parsi Zoroastrians are sensible and mature enough to decide how their mortal remains should be disposed of after their demise. If any of us prefers to be cremated, then so be it. If some prefer Doongerwadi, then that too is fine.
Similarly, if some priests say prayers for those opting for cremation and other priests do not wish to do so, we should be tolerant and accept both sides.
I suspect the reason for excessive pressure and other deplorable tactics being used by those who, in the absence of vultures, still favor Doongerwadi instead of cremation to push their viewpoint is a desperate lurking fear that despite their best suppressive efforts in due course cremation will become the preferred mode of disposal. One day we may also have a crematorium at Doongerwadi.
The method of final disposal is only a difference of perception within our community and there are no renegades, either individuals or priests.
