“I paid the fine”
The traffic police caught Kayomarze Khandhadia, a 29-year-old call center employee, who was on his way to office riding his motorcycle while allegedly drunk, The Times of India (TOI) reported on May 11, 2009. Khandhadia insisted he was not inebriated and demanded another breath analyzer test, but this was denied him. "I paid the fine as they threatened to put me behind bars,” said the Dadar resident who was on his way to work at Powai when apprehended by the traffic police at Wadala. There he was made to take a breath analyzer test and the reading showed alcohol, according to the police.
Khandhadia claimed that he had consumed a homeopathic medicine that contained a little alcohol. "I took the medicine at home and was having some mint when they (police) stopped me. Two constables asked me to undergo a breath analyzer test. I followed their instructions without checking the machine… I was shocked when they told me that I was drunk.” The cops took him to the Wadala (East) police station where he was fined Rs 2,050. Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Harish Baijal, however, informed TOI, "The machines are always reset before each test. The allegation is false. It’s common for people to say these things when they are caught.”
