Baby Ushta’s treatment
There is good news about baby Ushta Confectioner who suffered extensive burns when she accidentally fell into a vat of boiling milk in Bombay on July 3, 2007 (see "Appeal for funds” and "A big thank you,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, September 7 and November 7, 2007). The Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America (FEZANA) and the World Zoroastrian Organisation (WZO) had jointly raised funds for and sponsored her treatment at the Shriner’s Burns Hospital in Boston, USA. The ZNA (Zoroastrian News Agency) Digest No 508 posted on its website dated January 22, 2008 informs that Ushta’s treatment is now complete.
The item reads: "The Ushta Tandorosti Team would like to inform you that Ushta was discharged from the hospital on November 19, 2007 and was released in good condition by her physical therapist on November 30, 2007. In total Ushta had six skin grafts while she was in America. Upon completion of all surgeries and physical therapy treatment, Ushta had good mobility with her upper body and could walk about 100 ft on her own without assistance. She can now stand, sit and hug. According to her doctors’ suggestion Ushta will not need any follow-up medical attention in the immediate future.
"As per a telephone conversation, Zarir, Ushta’s father, had with FEZANA president Rustom Kevala, Zarir has now taken the whole family to Canada where he is planning to settle down and find a job. All of the bills for Ushta’s treatment have been paid.
"Ushta’s has indeed been a great success story of our community coming together and of this little girl’s recovery. To all who have so generously participated with your finances, time and other resources we hope you feel as elated as we do to know that together a new future has been granted to this little girl.”
