Dinbai Tower
Dinbai Tower has been a well-known landmark of Ahmedabad for nearly half a century. This clock tower, which houses a municipal dispensary, was erected in 1961 (Samvat 2017), by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in memory of Bai Dinbai Nasserwanji Vakil, through an endowment of Rs 1,00,000 for the building and Rs 60,000 for maintenance, etc, received from the executors of the estate of Dinbai’s third son, Pestonsha Nasserwanji Vakil, OBE, as per his will. The Tower is situated at the junction of three roads, one from Lal Darwaja, another from Mirzapur and the third from Khanpur.

Dinbai, who was fondly known as Dinbaimai, lived to be over 90 years of age and died in about 1936. She spent the last few years of her life with her daughter, Kharshedbai Dhanjibhai Medora, in the latter’s bungalow on Ashram Road, Ahmedabad, in the company of Kharshedbai’s children and grandchildren, including the undersigned, where relatives and friends would regularly come to visit and meet her.
