Orthodoxy, not fanaticism

We learn from ancient Iranian history that when Zoroastrians were attacked by Mongols and Arabs who wished to convert them, our wise forefathers remained united and courageously preserved the sanctity of the holy fire and our racial heritage. The last Mazdayasni king, Yazdegird III, was defeated because he was betrayed by some selfish and disloyal warriors in his army.
Fortunately, today we have no enemies from other communities, but we should remain alert regarding some betrayers among our own who are taking advantage of the split in our small community. If we remain united, compromise, and work out our problems across the table for pasbani of our cultural heritage, no one can destroy us. Zoroastrians are protected by the spiritual brigade of seven mighty Amesha Spentas who provide succor to those who preserve our cultural heritage and follow the path of Ashoi, acting according to our Marefat and Shariyat as assigned by our religion. These are practical processes to live by. Following them constitutes orthodoxy.
Shariyat is the observance of morality and maintaining spiritual standards or good intentions, good speech and benevolent actions. Marefat is the study of divine knowledge of the Gathas and other religious scriptures and spreading the message of our spiritual master. We expect this from religious leaders and learned scholars. These are correct doctrines for orthodoxy, but not fanaticism which enjoins hard and fast rules of conduct, tarikats, which are difficult to follow.
In our minuscule community is it not possible to form a brigade of a few ardent, faithful followers of our religion who have integrity to preserve our religion and racial heritage? A united front would definitely permit the community to thrive under the benevolent care of our seven Amesha Spentas.
