Second career for seniors

Realizing the importance of having loyal and mature people around, many banks have approached Dignity Foundation, a non-governmental organization working for the welfare of senior citizens, to help them hire elderly, experienced staff for customer care jobs, reported Mumbai Mirror of February 26, 2007. Jimmy Dordi (68), a Borivli resident who mans a UTI counter there says, "I have worked as assessment manager at Central Bank of India… this is my second career with Dignity and UTI. I am not working for money but to contribute to the society. Besides getting business for my bank, I am able to create awareness amongst my counterparts and society.”
Banks and financial institutions are lining up to recruit senior citizens for their call centers and desk jobs as the latter are more dependable and unlikely to hop jobs for extra money. Applauding this, Hoshang N. Sinor, president, Indian Banking Association, says, "This is a welcome move as we get to use vast experience of the elders.” Dignity Foundation can be contacted at 022-23885253, or msdignity@gmail. com
