Gutsy general
Padma Bhushan Lt Gen (retd) Adi M. Sethna hung up his boots forever on October 17, 2006. I was fortunate to have interacted with this visionary. Folks like me only talk of bringing about change sometime, someday. But here was a man who persuaded the Parsi community in Delhi to accept into its fold children of Parsi women married to men of different faiths and ensured that they could have their navjotes performed. His guts and gumption in confronting orthodoxy will bear fruit by helping to resurrect our dwindling community.
As president of the Delhi Parsi Anjuman he took on the task of going against the age-old practices and taking practical decisions. As member of the National Minorities Commission he represented the community’s problems to the government.
