“Navjote by choice”
On February 12, 2006 NDTV splashed on National TV that Delhi is doing navjotes of children of Parsi mothers and non-Parsi fathers. And then Parsiana (February 7, 2006) carried the story of two navjoted girls of a Parsi mother and Sikh father in America. Both the stories need to be applauded, not because they are sensational, but because such navjotes should have been done and accepted, from the very time children of Parsi men married outside the community were brought into our fold. Had it been done then, probably the sorry state of a dwindling community could have been averted.
It’s a good beginning all the same, and it needs to be encouraged. I once again reaffirm what’s good for the gander is good for the goose!
