“We salute our…”

While browsing through the April issue of Parsiana, which somehow I had missed, I was interested to read the letter "We salute our forefathers” by Phiroze B. Illava of Mhow, as my mother-in-law, the late Jeanie Darasha Karaka, née Dadabhoy, hailed from there and I had visited the place many years back. My attention was particularly drawn to the item "Edi Cooverji Cowasji established the Mhow Electric Power House in 1928 and ran it most efficiently till the 1960s when the State Government acquired it. Old timers still remember the wonderful service provided by him.” I was reminded of the Power House established by the same Cowasji at Mt Abu, which also provided the most efficient service, with a small ice factory attached to it, run by Parsi managers/engineers. The last of them Firoze Motisha, also from Mhow, is still remembered by many like me, as he would be on his feet in the Power House even at night, if one of his three generators was out of order and was sent to Ahmedabad for repairs. Similarly, he would be out in rain or storm if one of his overhead lines was out of commission and he would ensure that power was restored at the earliest, even through a loose cable. This Power House was also taken over by the Government, when problems started immediately with increase in power tariff and frequent breakdowns as the power used to come from the Chambal Grid. Firoze and his wife, Roshan, an Abu girl, were a nice couple, always helpful to one and all, especially Parsis. They have a son, Cawas, who had joined the Indian Air Force and a daughter, Khushnuma, who had became a doctor.
